Koh Chang Island

Koh Chang, Thailand – Walks Beaches Sunset & Beers

Koh Chang, sometimes known as Ko Chang, is one of the largest islands in Thailand’s Gulf of Thailand. Dense jungles, magnificent beaches, a lively nightlife, and, above all, a plethora of enjoyable activities and things to do. Elephant Island, so named because of its elephant-shaped head, retains its raw appeal and character thanks to the abundance of the environment surrounding it. So, whether you’re visiting for two days or a week, here’s a list of some of our favourite activities to do in Koh Chang.

White Sand Beach, Koh Chang

On a White Sands Beach, swing from a palm tree.

While nothing is usually a bad thing to do, it can occasionally be the nicest thing to do while relaxing on a Thai island. White Sands Beach, located in the north-western part of Koh Chang, is an excellent place to do so. There are beach bars and boats to rent, to be sure. But what’s the harm in sunbathing? Choose your own sand place, preferably near one of the many swings suspended from the palm trees. Because the beach is on the west side of the island, it’s also a great place to watch the sunset.

Kai Bae Waterfall Koh Chang

Hike to the Kai Bae Waterfall, which is hidden.

On Koh Chang, there are various waterfalls to visit. The majority of them are located in a national park that costs 200 baht (£4.50) to enter, and many of them require the assistance of a guide to locate. However, there is one that is free and does not require a guide. A road leading inland is located just south of the 7-Eleven at the bottom of Kai Bae Beach. Drive or walk to the end of the road and turn left, then first right. This is just a gravel road that leads to a village. Find a parking spot, then follow the signs to the waterfall. It’ll take you roughly ten minutes to hike. The final waterfall is secluded and serene. There’s a good chance you won’t run into anyone else on the trail. Ko Chang is one of Thailand’s nicest islands, in our opinion, because of its remoteness.

Snorkelling Koh Chang

Embark on a Snorkelling Adventure

A snorkelling trip of the coral reefs and pristine waters abounding with fish is one of the more pleasurable activities on Koh Chang. Tickets are available for purchase across the island, however, it is preferable (and less expensive) to purchase them on the boat itself. Several old fishing ships have been adapted for snorkelling tours at the end of Bang Bao pier. They’ll take you to five different locations, all within walking distance of one another, and several of them will offer you a complete lunch on the boat. Make sure you have enough sunscreen and water with you. There are a few dive sites in Koh Chang that are worth visiting if you enjoy diving.

SALAKPHET MOUNTAIN TREK KHO CHANG ISLAND

Hike Salak Phet, Koh Chang’s tallest mountain.

Hiking to waterfalls isn’t the only thing to do on Koh Chang. Hiking through the jungles or climbing the mountains across the island are also options. Salak Phet is the island’s highest point, but it’s not simple to reach. While you can hire a tuk-tuk to drive you there, you should check with your hotel or hostel to see if they have any tours going that way. If not, simply ask around for recommendations for local hiking trails. There are also a number of local tour guides who are willing to rent their skills for the day.

Bungalows on the Beach of Koh Chang

Bungalows on the Beach are a great way to spend the night.

On Koh Chang, there are a variety of accommodations to suit all budgets. The Habitat Hostel is just one of the island’s cheap lodging, while White Sands Beach is lined with resorts. The ideal spot to stay is probably in a beach hut, with the sand right up to your doorstep. There are a few luxury rooms on Klong Prao Beach, but if you want peace and quiet, go to Hat Sai Noi at the bottom of the island and stay in one of the many bungalows. You’ll also have access to a fantastic swimming pool with shallow water and many massage rooms just a few steps away.
